The Bean is a model

My French Bulldog "The Bean"  has decided he is a model!  

I recently had a photo shoot at my house for my upcoming book "The Well Traveled Home" and The Bean loved the photographer and loved being in front of the camera so much, that he interjected himself into every shot he could. He managed to pose and sit still in so many photos that he actually made it into the book.

Frankly - he is so handsome, modeling suits him.

Big Splash

You can't put a price on the love your pet gives.  But how much would you pay for puppy love?

The most expensive dog in the world  was sold in March of 2011 to a Chinese buyer for the price of 1.5 million usd.  It was a rare Tibetan Mastiff who was named "Big Splash".  He currently weighs 180 pounds and has a fluffy red coat of fur.

The Tibetan Mastif is considered one of the oldest breeds of dogs and it is rumored that both Buddah and Gengis Kahn owned one of them.  These furry dogs come from the mountain lands of Tibet, which explains all that crazy hair! They were supposed to be the guardians of the land of Tibet and protect it from invaders. The physical strength of this dog is enormous so monks gave them the position of guardians.

But no matter if you pay $ 1.5 million or get your dog from a Humane Society, the love they bring to your life is priceless.

DOGGIE SPAS?

Doggie Spas?  Have we gone too far?

A pet spa is not a regular groomer.  Unlike a standard grooming shop, dog spas focus on creating a relaxed and stress-free environment for the dogs. Treatments vary from water sports such as swimming, hydrotherapy, aquatic treadmills, acupuncture, Reiki, grooming, massages, facials and nail art along with many more pampering treats await them. Some dog spas also offer overnight accommodation where dogs receive room service dog spa meals, private suites, limousine services and flat screen TV's tuned to the dog's favorite channel. Some spas even have cyber cameras provided so you can watch your dog online and be confident that he/she is being taken care of. 

But don't look at it solely as a dog luxury.  There are great benefits to pampering your dog and dropping him off at the doggie spa.  Dogs that get left home alone alot or older dogs who like humans especially benefit from a massage.  They come home happy, rested and clean.  

Even London's Harrod's has a doggie spa where you can drop off your creature and heve them pampered while you shop.  Would you consider taking your pooch?

The Humane Society

Not all dogs have the luxury of living in a great home and having loving parents.  For many reasons some beautiful creatures end up living at the Humane Society and are in need of loving homes.

Some people can not care for a dog nor have the space and time required to have a pet.  But we can all help out in the care of these unlucky dogs.  All it takes is a few minutes out of your day to buy a few bags of dog food and drop it off or send in a donation.

January is usually one of the hardest months for dog shelters because most people forget to be charitable after the holidays.  I hope this message helps to remind you to donate food or money to your local aminal shelter and that you don't forget about the helpless creatures in your community.

Doggie Beds

Are you looking for the perfect holiday gift for your doggie?

I know ... most dogs can sleep anywhere.   So what ever we give them is more for us than them.  But how fun are these doggie beds?   Doesn't every dog need an over the top funny bed ?

Where does your dog sleep?

Dogs are part of almost everyone's home.  From the beginning of time man's best friend has shared space with humans. They are part of the family and the loving creatures we all welcome into our homes.

If you have a pet, take a few minutes to think about the comfort and sleeping space of your animal. If you do not designate and give your dog his own space, he will take over your bed and sofa and will soon be out of control.   You can put a fluffy dog bed on the floor next to your bed or in the living room so that your puppy learns where to nap.  You can also design and make a space in a hallway or laundry room for your dog.  

I designed a removable doggie door in my pantry so that my 2 French Bulldogs can sleep at night and feel safe in their own personal space.  It doesn't matter where it is, it just matters that your dog knows his spot and has his own little part in your world.

Love your dog and give him a tiny bit of luxury!  He loves you.

DOGGIE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

Alright , I could not resist!  

As Halloween approaches, don't you have the huge temptation to dress up your dog? There are some hilarious costumes out there so that your dog can also enjoy the silliness of the season.

Make yourself and everyone who sees your dog laugh.  Bring some humor into your world and dress up your pet.  I know I smiled when my friend Rich dressed up his Beagle as a bee last year!

COCO LOCO

A friend of mine from Texas got the cutest, most adorable  puppy for Christmas. Coco is the name of her seven month old Goldendoodle puppy who is the softest, happiest creature you will ever meet. She plays all day long and brings smiles to everyone.  

And like her namesake, what a charmed life Coco has.  Private plane rides, a mink bed, international beach homes!  I know people in line wanting to be Coco in their next life.

RALPH LAUREN FOR DOGS

Have you seen these designer doggie clothes from Ralph Lauren?  

This is so ridiculous it's funny. Your puppy can be as preppy as you and sport the classic summer look of a polo shirt.  They come in lots of sizes, and all of the typical bright colors and stripes you would normally see in polo's.  There is even  a trench coat for those rainy days and all can be custom embroidered with your dogs name!

These little guys are certainly well dressed.

Who is Torito?

Who is Torito?

Torito is a fabulous little  Miniature Schnauzer born in El Salvador two years ago. He  now lives in West Hollywood with my friends Scott & Alex who consider him their child and never stop talking about him.  All conversations lead to Torito.  And Torito is such a cool little man that he even has artwork in his likeness and has inspired his owners to decorate around him.  Yes, colors, furniture comfort and style revolve around Torito!

His favorite activity is to go to the beach and run around like a nut until he drops from exhaustion. But he is quite comfortable staying home and watching a movie too.

MEET BUDDIE

Buddie was found by my dear friend Rich at the Beagles & Buddies no-kill
rescue in El Monte,CA. He is now 3 years old and has the perfect home in
West Hollywood. He is a fun and crazy little guy and I am proud to be his
adopted aunt. 

Apart from being a great little guy and a best friend companion, Buddie loves
jumping and has a hilarious video on you tube you watch if you want a good
laugh.

MEET MAX

Max is the cutest little chihuahua and is owned by our contributing writer Danielle.  He  enjoys sunbathing, snuggling, naps and long walks on the beach. 

Like all proper West Hollywood puppies, he has an extensive wardrobe of hats, turtleneck sweaters, and a full  social calendar in which to wear them.

A Walk on the Beach

We spent the weekend at Capella Resort in Cabo San Lucas and "The Bean" took a walk on the lovely Pedregal Beach.   He loves being outside and watching the world.

She is angelic, isn't she? And she can fall asleep anywhere. She comes to work to the design firm everyday and she has pretty good taste too. She only chews on silk!
