Clint's Chair

I was traveling during the Republican convention that took place in Tampa, Florida, but I was able to Youtube the, now infamous, Clint Eastwood speech.

A bit of time has passed, so I have heard all of the jokes and comments. I think that having Clint Eastwood ramble and yell at a chair during the final night of the Republican convention, during prime time,  was  really awful.  A huge PR mistake, in my opinion, and a moment of pop culture infamy. This is the reason I think actors should keep their opinions to themselves about politics.

But most importantly, from a design point of view, could they have chosen a better looking chair?  Do any of us really believe President Obama would sit on that uncomfortable, simple, high-school lunch room style bar stool?

As a film director, the least Mr. Eastwood could have done is hire a production designer to select the proper chair for his ventriloquist show.

Dear Ms. Espinet,

Sadly, it was not a propitious moment in time, borderline crude and at the very least insensitive and even childish.

One would think that a professional actor of his stature would have thought about the longer term impact of words emanating from his mouth.

Mr. Eastwood certainly has had plenty of PR mileage from "make my day"....but I think the real issue is not only what he presented, but the incredible amount of hatred and invective put out by _both_ parties that is currently roiling like a tornado into the consciousness of Mr. and Mrs. American citizen. The billions being spent on these two showbiz presentations could have gone SO far into solving many of the problems they are showboating belatedly.

Its sad is that someone in the Republican National Committee was not put in charge of vetting the "format, theme or goal of each speaker.

In any event...we are the most blessed country in this world..but more often than not, it seems that we're a boat with fixable rudder problems.

Though I do not believe that the last ten years or so have been our proudest moments, I remain optimistic that common sense and compromise WILL happen...it must

sincerely,
dal
